Across our country over 20 million children are at risk of hunger. Did you know that some of these children live here in our own community? Do you want to make a BIG difference in such a child’s life?
Our Bountiful Backpacks Ministry serves “to satisfy the thirsty and fill the hungry with good things” (Psalm 107:9). Each weekend of the school year we provide backpacks of food for at-risk students in area schools.
Bountiful Backpacks are free to participating students thanks to generous donations from our church family and community. The average cost of food per child for one weekend is only $4.20.
Backpacks are filled with non-perishable and kid-friendly nutritious foods that are either ready to eat or easy to prepare. Backpacks are dispersed to children by their teachers, in a discrete and caring manner. Children receive their assigned backpack each Friday and return the backpack on Monday to be refilled for the next weekend.
You can help by donating the food that goes in these backpacks each week. For a printable shopping list of approved food items, click here. The Bountiful Backpacks ministry also welcomes those who can give a little of their time to help out, or who are able to support the ministry financially.
